Custom-designed Dental Bridges to Restore Your Smile
A dental bridge can be used to replace one tooth or several consecutive missing teeth. Crafted using your bite as a guide, your restoration will be designed to blend seamlessly with your smile. At Alpha Dental Center, Dr. Munal Salem, DDS, and his associates offer both traditional and implant-supported bridges. Both types of restoration can restore function and aesthetics to your smile, though dental implants can provide added support and stability. Missing teeth can dramatically affect your appearance and oral function. A dental bridge can fill in the gap in your smile, and it will restore your ability to speak and chew normally.
Are You a Candidate for a Dental Bridge?
Most patients who are missing one or more teeth can make excellent candidates for dental bridges. Dr. Salem or one of his team members will need to make sure that the adjacent teeth are strong enough to uphold your restoration. If you choose an implant-supported bridge, you must have sufficient bone volume to support the dental implants. Your dentist will use x-rays and other advanced imaging studies to evaluate the structure of your jaw. If you have lost a significant amount of bone tissue, your doctor may recommend a bone grafting procedure.
Placing a Traditional Bridge
When you receive a traditional bridge, your dentist will need to reshape the teeth on either side to create a suitable bonding surface for your restoration. Using gentle techniques, your doctor will remove a small amount of tissue to create a stable foundation for your bridge. We will take impressions of your teeth and gums for our partnering dental lab to use when creating your bridge. When your restoration is complete, you will come back to our office to have it placed. Your doctor will make any necessary adjustments to ensure function and comfort before attaching the bridge with tooth-colored composite.
If you choose an implant-supported bridge, your dentist will surgically embed two or more titanium posts in your jawbone to provide stability to your restoration. When your jaw has fully healed, your dentist will attach your custom-made bridge. Like our traditional bridges, your implant-supported restoration will match your smile and restore functioning of your jaw.
Benefits of Dental Bridges
Missing teeth can dramatically affect your appearance and oral function. A dental bridge can fill in the gap in your smile, and it will restore your ability to speak and chew normally. By replacing missing teeth. you will protect against your other teeth gradually shifting and moving into the empty spaces.
An implant-supported bridge can provide even greater stability for your restoration. Your bridge will be held firmly in place by the titanium posts, and you will not need to worry about your restoration slipping out of place. Additionally, the implants will replace the function of the roots of your missing teeth, providing stimulation to your jawbone when chewing and speaking. This stimulation can prevent the deterioration of jaw bone tissue.
