Restore Your Smile with Dental Implants
Missing teeth can take a tremendous toll on your quality of life. Fortunately, dental implants placed at our Southshore, MetroWest, South Coast, or Cape Cod offices can replace missing tooth roots and provide the ultimate support for crowns and dentures. These small titanium posts are surgically implanted in the jaw bone to restore your bite, preserve your oral health, and restore a natural appearance to your smile. Contact us today to learn more about how dental implants can benefit you.
To place implants, your dentist will first numb the bone and gum tissue in the treatment area. Small incisions are placed in the gums, and pilot holes are drilled into the jaw bone. Next, the threaded implant will be inserted into the bone, and the gums will be sutured closed.
As your jaw bone heals over the next three to six months, it will fuse permanently to the implant. When you have fully healed, you will return to our office for a second surgery. The dentist will create incisions in the gums and attach abutment pieces to the implants, which will serve as the point of connection with your crowns or dentures. The gums will be sutured closed to leave the abutments exposed above the gum line. Next, your dentist can begin the process of creating your restorations. You may be provided with temporary restorations in the meantime.
Bone Grafting and Sinus Lift Procedures
Dental implant candidates must have adequate jaw bone mass to support the implants. They must also have enough bone density in the upper jaw to prevent the implant from interfering with the sinus cavities. If you have waited to address missing teeth, you may have experienced some bone atrophy, or shrinkage, in the jaw. Bone grafting is a common solution. Our dentists can use bone harvested from another part of your body, or donor tissue, to restore the necessary bone mass of your jaw. A sinus lift is a similar procedure used to help your implants and maxillofacial structure achieve harmony. This can also involve lifting your sinus membranes to create more room for the implant posts. Our dentists use advanced techniques and anesthesia to make every step of your dental implant placement process comfortable. We also offer sedation options.
The Many Benefits of Dental Implants
Dental implants provide a wealth of benefits:
- Dental implants are permanently embedded in your jaw bone, holding restorations firmly in place.
- To care for dental implants, you must simply maintain routine dental care (brushing, flossing, regular dental checkups, etc.).
- Implants are extremely durable. When you practice proper hygiene, they could last the rest of your life.
- Because dental implants replace your tooth roots, they also help to preserve valuable jaw bone mass. No other dental restoration solution can provide this incredible benefit.
Ultimately, you will need to weigh these benefits against the cost of your dental implants and restorations. We will ensure that you fully understand the cost of your restorations before your treatment begins. We accept all major forms of payment and can help you apply for CareCredit℠ patient financing.
