Restore Your Smile with Traditional or Implant-supported Dentures
If you are missing all or most of your teeth, your appearance, self-esteem, and quality of life can suffer. Fortunately, we offer custom-crafted dentures at our Southshore, MetroWest, South Coast, and Cape Cod offices. Our dentures will not only restore your oral function, they will also fit comfortably and look completely natural. With both traditional and implant-supported options available, Dr. Munal Salem, DDS, or one of his skilled associates can help you find a restoration that is best-suited to your needs.
Traditional Removable Dentures
Traditional dentures are designed to blend in seamlessly with your smile by matching the color of your soft tissues and surrounding teeth. A full denture can replace an entire arch of teeth in your upper or lower jaw, and is held in place with dental adhesives. A partial denture can restore several consecutive missing teeth and is attached to the surrounding teeth with discreet metal clasps.
When designing your restoration, your dentist will consider both your appearance and the natural alignment of your jaw. This will ensure that your restoration does not interfere with the natural force of your bite.
When designing your restoration, your dentist will consider both your appearance and the natural alignment of your jaw. This will ensure that your restoration does not interfere with the natural force of your bite. Your denture will also fill in any areas of lost volume in your lips and cheeks for a natural, more youthful look.
Implant-supported dentures are permanent restorations that are also available as full and partial prosthetics. Your denture will attach to several dental implants, which are surgically embedded in your jaw. Your doctor will typically place two or more posts to provide support for a partial denture, while a full arch restoration can require four or more implants.
Following your placement procedure, the implants will be allowed to fuse with your jawbone for several months as you recover and heal. Once the posts can provide the level of stability that is required to support your new prosthetic, you will come back into our office where your doctor will attach your permanent restoration.
The Benefits of Dentures
The most apparent benefits that dentures offer are the restored function and appearance of your smile. Many patients enjoy a boost in self-confidence after receiving their dentures, and many find that they begin to smile more often than they had previously. Additionally, dentures can help to protect your long-term oral health. A partial denture will prevent your remaining teeth from shifting to fill in the spaces left by missing teeth.
Implant-supported dentures offer even greater benefits because of the improved stability that they provide. The metal posts can prevent jaw bone recession by replacing the function of the tooth roots. After tooth loss, the jaw bone stops receiving stimulation when chewing and speaking. Dental implants are the only restorative treatment that can preserve the natural shape of your jaw.
